Alexander and Carfrae take Muskoka

Craig Alexander beats fellow countrymen to claim the Subaru Ironman 70.3 Muskoka title.

In a repeat peformance from a year earlier, Craig Alexander posted the day’s fastest run split (1:11) to claim the Subaru Ironman 70.3 Muskoka title (3:58:04) over fellow Australians Richie Cunningham (4:02:02) and Paul Matthews (4:03:52). Brazil’s Santiago Ascenco finished fourth (4:07:42) ahead of Germany’s Maik Twelsiek (4:08:06). Sean Bechtel was the first Canadian across the line in sixth, Wolfgang Guembel finished eighth and Victoria’s Andre Russell finished ninth.

Another former Ironman 70.3 world champion, Mirinda Carfrae, dominated the women’s race in 4:24:48. The Australian pulled away from American Rebeccah Wassner (4:29:34) during the run. Third went to the U.S.A’s Kelly Couch in 4:36:29. Magali Tisseyre was the first Canadian across the line in fourth (4:41:15) followed by Laurel Wassner (4:48:57). Other Canadians included Paolina Allan, sixth, Suzanne Zelazo, seventh, Ayesha Rollinson, eighth and Tara Ross, 10th.
