2014 ITU World Triathlon Championship bid for Edmonton?
Request made by ITU to Edmonton World Cup organizers.
According to the Edmonton Journal, the ITU (International Triathlon Union) has asked the Edmonton ITU World Cup organizers to consider hosting the 2014 ITU World Championship Grand Final after San Diego pulled out of its hosting duties.
Edmonton last played host to the World Championship in 2001, and the event would be slated to occur at the beginning of September in Hawrelak Park. If a bid is to be successful, organizers hope to be able to gather the necessary funding needed to put on such an event – estimated to be in the neighbourhood of 4-5 million dollars.
