Scott has introduced the world to the newest iteration of the Addict RC, the company’s lightest race bike to date. The Addict RC was designed with speed in mind, and it is undeniably the perfect bike for any and all triathletes who want to get the most out of their training rides (or draft-legal races). If you’ve never ridden a Scott Addict before, you’ll understand why this bike has its name as soon as you take it for a spin, as you will be hooked after the first few kilometres.

Lightweight and built for speed

As the team at Scott says, the newest version of the Addict RC was engineered to “help riders in the pursuit of defying gravity.” The development team behind this bike looked to shave weight off of the frame at every opportunity, and they did a fantastic job, cutting 300g from its predecessor’s total. The new frame weigh less than 5.9kg, but this extremely light design in no way compromises the bike’s performance.

While most bike frames have solid ends to their tubes, thanks to a carbon molding technique used by Scott engineers, the Addict RC’s new frame is completely hollow. The team at Scott says this molding process is a unique approach to frame design, and since it was another way to help them shave unwanted grams from the bike, they went for it.

The meticulous design didn’t stop there, as the development team made sure to smooth out the entirety of the frame’s inside, leaving it clean and without wrinkles. By extracting any excess resin that was left inside the frame, there is no wasted weight, and all that is left is what is truly needed.

Fast, but comfortable

It’s great to build a fast bike, but no one will want to ride it if it isn’t comfortable to sit on for hours at a time. Well, Scott’s engineers knew that, and although their main focus was a fast, lightweight design, they didn’t forget to make it a pleasant ride, too.

The Addict RC has always been a comfortable bike, but the latest iteration feels even better. This has a lot to do with the bike’s seat post. Scott uses thenew Syncros SP-R101-CF seat post, which has a thinner design and allows for more flexibility. This promotes comfort, giving you an easier ride no matter how long you decide to hit the road. Finally, the Addict RC has 34mm tire clearance. This will make for as smooth a ride as possible, no matter where you’re riding.

What’s it cost?

There are several different levels available for the newest version of the Addict RC. The most affordable (but still phenomenal) ride is the Addict RC 30, which comes in at US$5,000. Next up in the order is the Addict RC 20, which costs US$5,700. The Addict RC 10 is next (US$6,600), then the Addict RC Pro (US$9,000), and finally the top model, the Addict RC Ultimate (US$15,000). No matter the model you choose, you will quickly fall in love with Scott’s Addict RC lineup, and you certainly won’t regret your decision to switch to this bike.
