One of the biggest names in the sport has announced some major gear changes for 2021. Lucy Charles, who’s impressive resume includes three Kona runner-up finishes, two Ironman Africa championships, a Challenge Roth title and three straight Challenge Championship titles (she’s the only woman to have won the race), will be riding a Cube bike and DT Swiss wheels this year.

A former national-team swimmer, Charles-Barclay first burst onto the sport scene as an age-group winner in Kona, then went on to take third in her first professional race at Ironman Lanzarote. (After losing much of 2016 to an injury, she returned to Lanzarote in 2017 to take the title.) Routinely the fastest woman out of the water at almost every race she enters, she’s used her swim talents to numerous wire-to-wire victories around the world.

“There is no doubting the efficiency and beauty of all things CUBE but what has inspired me most about joining this team is the continuing search for innovation and improvements,” Charles said in a release today. “I have grown and changed as an athlete a lot in a short time and everything I see with CUBE shows me that they are on a similar journey.”

Today Charles also announced that she’ll be riding DT Swiss wheels, the same wheels her biggest rival, Daniela Ryf, has ridden to numerous world titles.

“There are so many things that draw me to the DT Swiss wheels but top of my list has to be the aerodynamics especially in variable winds of Kona,” Charles-Barclay said in a release today distributed by DT Swiss. “Every time I ride on them I feel happy knowing that they are super reliable and I can just ride them hard and get every ounce of extra propulsion they give me. They also look so super cool which makes me smile every time I see my bike ready for me to ride. I look forward to using them in the heat of battle soon.”
