Live from the special Apple Event at the Steve Jobs Theatre

We’re here in Cupertino, California at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park for today’s “special” Apple Event. Because we’re here, we’re guessing Apple has some exciting new announcements on the fitness front. Welcome

Apple is nothing if not punctual – at exactly 10 AM things got started with Tim Cook welcoming us all to today’s event.

OK – looks like we’re going to see a new iPhone, new AirPods and a new Apple Watch.

Apple Watch Line Up

Apple Watch Series 8 – all the things we’re used to “and more.” New watch faces. Swim proof, dust proof and crack resistant.

Women’s health: New temperature sensor. Cycle tracking for woman is now enhanced – now includes ovulation tracking. Two temperature sensors – will sample your wrist temperature through the night.

Safety: Crash Detection – will detect if you are in a severe car crash. Will notify emergency contacts. Runs only when you’re driving. (Hope you never need it … but hope you’ll feel safer when you’re in your car.)

Battery life: 18 hour battery life. Low power battery mode – provides up to 36 hours.

International roaming – will be available on 30 carriers world wide by the end of the year.

Available Sept. 16.

For training – measures stride length and ground contact time while running. Figures out swim strokes. Tracks REM sleep. Tracks falls.

Apple Watch SE

Workout and activity tracking. Emergency SOS. Supports crash detection.  20 % faster than before. Can be used with Family setup. Also to be available on Sept. 16

Apple Watch Ultra

This is what we’ve been waiting for! Apple is getting serious about adventure and endurance training.

Case – aerospace titanium. Flat, sapphire crystal. 49 mm case. Biggest and brightest display. Action button. Buttons designed to be used while wearing gloves.

Voice clarity on calls even in windy conditions.

Biggest battery yet – 36 hours. 60 hours on battery optimization to come later this fall.

Special bands – crafted with the different activities in mind. Alpine. Ocean. Endurance athletes will use the trail loop. Thinnest band yet.

GPS performance: new dual frequency (L1 and L5) to provide accurate GPS.

New metrics, custom workouts. Action button to start the workout, for transition. Automatically will detect when you get to a track.

Will be able to finish an Ironman with the watch.

Redesigned compass app. Backtrack will help you retrace your steps.

Built in siren that can be heard up to 180 m away.

Designed for water sports – depth app. Certified for scuba divers. Twice as water resistant as previous Apple Watches.
