Wurtele and Laundry second at IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Rosa

Wurtele has another top result and Laundry continues his breakout season

In one of the world’s premier wine regions, Canada’s Heather Wurtele and Jackson Laundry both earned second place honours at IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Rosa.

On Saturday, July 28th, Wurtele toed the line with a number of the world’s top triathletes, most notable Mirinda Carfrae. On this day, it was Carfrae that was victorious thanks to her 1:20 half marathon split. She would beat out Wurtele by just over two minutes at the line, which was just about the difference in their run splits. Wurtele would come in second, a minute ahead of the Pamella Oliveira and Jocelyn McCauley fighting it out for third. The overall women’s podium would be 1) Mirinda Carfrae (3:43:21), 2) Heather Wurtele (3:45:20) and 3) Pamella Oliveira (3:46:30).

In the men’s race, it was Jackson Laundry that continued his breakout season, coming second behind Sam Appleton. Laundry would finish just over four minutes back of Appleton and 50 seconds ahead of Tyler Butterfield. The overall men’s podium would be 1) Sam Appleton (3:17:35) 2) Jackson Laundry (3:21:42) and 3) Tyler Butterfield (3:22:34). Earlier this summer, Laundry won his first IRONMAN 70.3 professional race in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Canadians Melanie McQuaid and Taylor Reid also had a top performance finishing in seventh and sixth.
