VIDEO: Inside the inaugural Canada Man Xtreme triathlon

The first race of its kind for Canada.

On Sunday, athletes took on the beautiful and rustic landscape of Lac Megantic, Quebec for the inaugural Canada Man Xtreme Triathlon. The full distance, “extreme” triathlon gave athletes more than the usual 17 hours for completion because of the gruelling climbs. After a 3.8-km swim starting at dawn, athletes took on over 2,500m of elevation gain on a 180-km climbing ride. Then, the highlight of the race for many was a marathon that ended in a trail run leading up to the Mont-Megantic observatory — another 1,200 m of elevation gain — with the goal of reaching the summit by midnight.
