STAC Performance wins Interbike Innovation Award

Kitchener, Ont.-based STAC Performance, creators of the Zero magnetic trainer, have earned one of Interbike’s Innovation Awards for their Virtual Wind Tunnel. The awards “recognize excellence and innovation in product, retail and advocacy.” STAC Performance’s award falls under the Product category.

A total of 13 product innovation awards were chosen across mountain, road, electric and triathlon categories, recognizing innovation in 2018 product. All triathlon products were reviewed and selected by LAVA Magazine.

The Virtual Wind Tunnel technology was released late last year. TMC editor Claire Duncan was one of the first to try it:

The  VWT helps triathletes find their most aerodynamic position on the bike, through a series of scans that produce hi-resolution images. STAC Performance analyses the images and data with computational fluid dynamics — calculations back out the aerodynamic data, looking at how the air flow moves around the rider and how much drag they are creating, and from there helps STAC Performance determine the best aero position for the rider to optimize their bike performance.
