How to qualify for Challenge Family’s The Championship

All the info age-groupers need on qualifying for The Championship.

Earlier this week, Challenge Family announced that their Championship race, which made its debut in June this year, had renewed its contract with the x-bionic sphere in Samorin, Slovakia and would remain there for the next three years.

For age-groupers looking for a new challenge, this event attracts top level triathletes from around the world who qualify for the event through top AG placings, much like the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 World Championships. So how can you qualify for The Championship? The qualifying window for the 2018 race began with Challenge Wanaka on February 18, 2017 and runs until Challenge Salou in May 2018. Here’s a complete guide to all the ways you can qualify for this new world class event:

Place in the top 6 of your age group at any Challenge Family race

  • This includes full and half distance races
  • Slots will roll down in each category up to 12th place.
  • Qualifiers will have four (4) weeks to confirm their spot after the qualifying race

Win your age group at The Championship

  • There is one spot available for each male and female age group winner at The Championship

Relays

  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers of the mixed relay team at all Challenge Family full and half distance events (where relays are conducted).
  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers of the all-male relay team at all Challenge Family full and half  distance events (where relays are conducted).
  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers of the all-female relay team at all Challenge Family full and half distance events (where relays are conducted).
  • Team structure at Challenge Family must comprise a minimum of two (2) members of the qualifying team racing at The Championship
  • Slots will roll down in each category up to 12th place.
  • Team qualifiers will have four (4) weeks to confirm their spot after the qualifying race.

Age group loyalty program

  • Loyalty slots will be available to any age group athlete who participates in three (3) or more Challenge Family races (full or middle distance) within the qualification period for The Championship
  • Loyalty slots are available to any age group athlete regardless of their finishing time or finishing position at Challenge Family events, so long as they have participated in a minimum of three (3) or more Challenge Family events within the qualification period.
  • Athletes will be required to submit a request (via email) for one of the loyalty slots and prove they registered and started three Challenge Family races within the qualification period. A total of 300 slots are available on a first come, first served basis.
  • Upon receipt of the request from the first 300 loyalty qualifiers, and proof of the three races, the “loyalty athlete” will be provided with a registration code to which they can use to register for The Championship on-line. The “loyalty athlete” will have to the close of registration period to complete their on-line registration using the registration form.
