Paula Findlay wins Beijing International Triathlon

The Beijing International Triathlon draws fields of Olympic medalists and champions each year to one of the few remaining non-drafting Olympic distance races for pros.

Building on a comeback season of strong results after the disappointment of not qualifying for the Rio Olympics last summer, Edmonton’s Paula Findlay earned her biggest results in recent years, taking the prestigious Beijing International Triathlon win against a field of non-drafting triathlon’s strongest women.

Findlay clocked 2:11:33 to win by over three minutes in a the field that included Olympic non-drafting superstar Lauren Goss (winner of the 2017 Escape from Alcatraz and New York City Triathlons). Findlay was also the sixth athlete to cross the finish line behind five men in one of the strongest assembled fields to date.

“Winning races means so much more now than it ever used to because it doesn’t come easy (or often),” Findlay said on social media after the race. “Very happy to take the win at Beijing International Triathlon, on one of the most epic courses I’ve ever raced on.”

Beijing International Triathlon stands as one of the few remaining Olympic non-drafting races for pros in the world. Olympic and Ironman champions have won the event in the past — last year, Alistair Brownlee and Holly Lawrence took the wins.
