Karsten Madsen: Going after the national title and his breakthrough season in cross-triathlon

Currently Canada’s top-ranked professional cross triathlete, Karsten Madsen has been enjoying a breakthrough year in the Xterra world. He’s currently tied in first place on the overall Xterra rankings and has achieved podium finishes in each of his races this year, including two wins at Xterra Victoria and Mine Over Matter in his hometown of Guelph, Ontario.

Madsen didn’t expect to see the success he’s achieved so far this year, but believes training with top Canadian ITU athletes like Andrew Yorke has helped him reach such a high level in cross-triathlon. This weekend, he’ll be going after the national title in cross-triathlon in Penticton, BC. We caught up with him to hear about his expectations for the race and his season so far this year.
