Ironman announces new event in Sardinia, Italy

Inaugural Ironman 70.3 Sardegna to take place on October 25, 2020.

Ironman continues its ambitious expansion in Europe with the addition of a third Italian event to its race calendar – Ironman 70.3 Sardegna (Sardinia). The race takes place in the same venue that previously hosted Challenge Forte Village, which last took place in 2018.

The inaugural event will take place on Oct. 25, 2020, a little over a month after the other two Italian events on the Ironman calendar, Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Italy, Emilia-Romagna.

Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. The race will start with a one-loop, 1.9 km swim at Forte Village beach. That’s followed by a scenic ride through southern Sardinia along the coast, followed by a two-loop run “that connects Forte Village with the coastline of Santa Margherita di Pula and its landmark, Sarancen tower of Cala d’Ostia” before finishing at Forte Village.

The race will have age-group qualifying slots for the 2021 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in St. George, Utah.
