HED unveils Vanquish 6 clinchers
The American manufacturer releases new disc brake only, 60 mm aero wheelset
American wheel manufacture HED have announced their newest wheelset. The Vanquish 6 are a 60 mm-deep, disc-specific aero wheelset and the first ever set of carbon clinchers from the Minnesota-based company, one of the last brands to do so. The clincher wheelset also get tubeless ready rims, for up-to-the-minute tech. HED says the new wheelset is stable, stiff and aerodynamic.
The Vanquish wheelset is made in HED’s Minnesota factory where the wheels are finished and assembled. HED’s 545 disc hub set gives riders a wide selection of axle and drivetrain options. The rims can accommodate tires up to 30 mm wide, have an internal depth of 21 mm and are 60 mm deep offering an aerodynamic advantage.
Tubeless technology has been steadily gathering momentum with road cyclists. Tubeless ready wheels are faster to setup without the need for an inner tube, they have lower rolling resistance since there is no friction between the tube and the tire, and they can be run at a lower tire pressure for more comfort and traction while eliminating the possibility of pinch flats. Tyres that are filled with liquid sealant—which plugs small holes in the tire—can even prevent the tire from going completely flat in the case of a puncture. The rims still allow for a standard inner tube to be inserted.
“We couldn’t be more excited about the Vanquish 6 launch,” said HED CEO Anne Hed. We’re proud to have another revolutionary carbon rim made in our own factory. Our whole team is proud to see this wheel make it out on to customers’ bikes.”
The Vanquish 6 wheelset will retail for US$2,500.
