Frodeno and Ryf win IRONMAN Europe

European champions crowned

Over the weekend, in Frankfurt, Germany, Jan Frodeno (GER) took the IRONMAN European Championship in commanding fashion. For most of the race a select group stayed together; Frodeno, Patrik Nilsson, Patrick Lange, Josh Amberger and Nicolas Kastelein. Then on the run, Frodeno pulled away from his competition, running a 2:39 marathon and winning the race by seven minutes. His overall finishing time was 8:00:58. Patrick Nilsson (SWE) finished in second, and Patrick Lange (GER) came in third.

In the women’s race, Daniela Ryf (SUI) had a 30-minute lead after the bike and would cruise on the run to win the IRONMAN European Championship. She finished in a time of 8:38:44 and would be joined by Sarah True (USA) and Sarah Crowley (AUS) on the podium.

Canada’s Rachel McBride would finish sixth on the day. McBride put together an impressive swim/bike split but would fall off the pace in the run.
