Extreme, Elemental, Unforgiving: Patagonman Opens for 2026
Set in Chilean Patagonia, the seventh edition of Patagonman opens with just 300 spots for one of endurance sport’s most demanding experiences.
At the edge of the map, in the wild expanse of Chilean Patagonia, a single sound defines success: the ringing of a bell.
The seventh edition of Patagonman is now open for entry, returning athletes to one of the most remote and visually stunning race venues on the planet. Staged in Puerto Aysén on December 6th, 2026, this is not simply another long-distance triathlon. It is a test of composure, resilience, and spirit across 226km of elemental terrain.
An Endurance Experience Unlike Any Other
The race, equivalent to Ironman distance (but in far more extreme conditions), begins in the cold waters of the Aysén Fjord near Puerto Chacabuco. Athletes plunge into an ice-cold 3.8km swim framed by steep mountains and open sky.
From there, the 180km bike leg traces the famed Carretera Austral, a ribbon of road cutting through one of the last true wilderness corridors on Earth. Last, the marathon unfolds through canyons and past waterfalls before culminating at the imposing General Carrera Lake. The setting is breathtaking, the challenge uncompromising.
Each athlete must bring a dedicated support person, transforming Patagonman into a shared journey as much as an individual one.
What the Pros Are Saying
Australian professional Josh Amberger, who finished second at the event this past December, described it as: “By far the richest, most spiritual, honest, & gruelling triathlon experience I’ve ever put myself through. An epic adventure from end to end.”

Alistair Brownlee, who finished third, echoed that sentiment: “Thanks @patagonmanxtri. Came for the event but stayed because it’s amazing!” He added: “One of the most beautiful, raw, and honest triathlons on Earth. In a world that never switches off, this one forces you to… jaw-droppingly stunning Patagonia for 226km.”

The 2026 Lottery Is Now Open
Entry to the seventh edition is officially open. With just 300 slots available each year, demand consistently exceeds supply.
Registration is offered through two pathways: athletes may enter via the lottery system or secure direct entry through a Social Commitment option. The first lottery window is open now for two weeks, with results announced in March. A second lottery will open in April.
For those selected, the reward is more than a start line. It is immersion in one of endurance sport’s most extreme frontiers. And it is the chance to stand at the end of a 226km journey and reach for a bell that signifies far more than a finish.
