Cody Beals withdraws from ITU World Championships

The Guelph-based pro was a podium favourite for Sunday's race on home soil.

Ontario-based 70.3 star Cody Beals has withdrawn from the long course world championship race this Sunday at the ITU Multisport Festival in Penticton, B.C.. Beals has cited ongoing illness this summer as his reason for not starting Sunday’s race, but says he’ll be racing Ironman 70.3 Santa Cruz and Ironman 70.3 Cozumel later this fall.

Beals is one of Canada’s most well-known long course triathletes in part thanks to his popular blog and social media presence. Last year, Beals placed fifth at the ITU Long Distance World Championship in Oklahoma and was a podium favourite for this year’s race in Penticton.
