Canada had a strong contingent of triathletes out this morning for the Sarasota CAMTRI sprint triathlon, junior triathlon, paratriathlon and Mixed Relay this morning in Florida and saw several podium performances as well as a win from Guelph’s Joanna Brown. The Canucks proved we have a strong crew of up-and-coming athletes capable of competing among the best in the sport over the next quadrant.

Joanna Brown ran an impressive race from start to finish and took the elite women’s sprint race in a 55:36, with a solid margin of victory over runner-up, USA’s Sarah True (who represented her country in Rio last summer). Dominika Jamnicky came in fifth as the second Canadian followed by Elisabeth Boutin (10th), Severine Bouchez (12th), Emy Legault (14th), Marika Ploude-Couture (23rd) and Adeline Maunder (24th).

On the men’s side, the top performance goes to Matt Sharpe who ran his way to a strong third place finish just four seconds behind men’s winner Rodrigo Gonzalez. John Rasmussen was close on his heels in fourth, followed by Alexis Lepage in 6th, Charles Paquet (11th), Taylor Forbes (12th), Brennen Smith (13th), Martin Sobey (20th), Karsten Madsen (22nd), Gabriel Legault (23rd), Myles Zagar (25th), Edouard Garneau (26th), Nicolas Gilbert (27th), Thomas Windisch (31st), Jeremy Obrand (33rd).

TMC will have updates from the paratriathlon and Mixed Relay events later this weekend.
