Mary Beth Ellis closed out the last Kona race of her pro career and was emotional as she ran the final miles of the marathon course.

Heather Jackson was ecstatic with her third place finish, becoming the first American woman to podium at Kona in 10 years. She had a GoPro with her on the podium and captured this image.

Australia’s Turia Pitt, a survivor of severe burns who has since become an inspirational figure in the sporting community, received loud applause from the sidelines as she crossed the finish line.

Jan Frodeno earned his second consecutive Ironman World Championship title and was elated as he crossed the finish line, calling it the best race of his career.

Japan’s Hiromu Inada was the oldest competitor to cross the finish line yesterday at 83 years old.

Die Freude über die Wahnsinns Leistung kann einfach nicht schöner sein. Danke @patricklange1 für so ein geiles Rennen und die Wahnsinns Leistung das Ding so zu rocken. Und was war das bitte für ein Marathon ??? ? Und über das Podium brauchen wir garnicht erst reden ?. Top 3 , 5 Deutsche in der Top 10 und was @anja_beranek da abgeliefert hat war sensationell, nur echt schade das die Berichterstattung über das Frauenrennen Ihrer abgelieferten Leistung nicht gerecht wurde. Hinzu gingen ja auch noch beide Agegroup Overall Titel an uns oder ? Ich würde sagen sauber abgeliefert ? Germany ?? Ab Morgen sind dann auch meine 4 Wochen Trainingspause vorbei und es geht endlich wieder los ???. Was dann auch heißt ab nun startet die Vorbereitung für Roth 2017. Kona rookie, Germanys Patrick Lange broke the 27-year-old Kona marathon record set by Mark Allen. His 2:39:45 marathon helped him earn third to round out a fully-German podium, the first since ’97.

Shirin Gerami made history as the first Iranian woman to compete at Kona.
