A handful of Canadian elites are lining up for the Ironman 70.3 North American Pro Championship in St. George, Utah and the Huatulco ITU Triathlon World Cup tomorrow, but those aren’t the only two races on the map this weekend.
TMC‘s Antoine J. Desroches has been in Spain getting ready for Ironman 70.3 Mallorca tomorrow where he’ll face off against Germany’s Andreas Dreitz, Britain’s Tim Don, Belgium’s Bart Aernots and several other top European pros.
“After Ironman 70.3 Texas, I had a crazy month of getting ready for Ironman 70.3 Mallorca and trying to survive my final exams for university,” he says. “This is always a super busy and crazy time of the year, and every time I wonder how I managed to do this the previous year. I somehow survived but my few weeks of training suffered slightly due to the stress of the exams and the lack of sleep. However, now that I’m officially done for the year, I can solely focus on training, racing and making articles and videos like the ones below!
I left Saturday with my parents for Mallorca to race on the seventh. There was a problem with our plane which meant that we had to take a longer route through Groenland and refill in Paris. This added five hours to our flight and we missed our Barcelona-Mallorca flight because of this. We finally arrived in two different flights and my luggage and my bike arrived the following day. But we arrived and that’s all it matters!
The training in Mallorca is ideal. The routes are wonderful and filled with cyclists. There are many long climbs with spectacular descents. Also, the sea is great for swimming and the water is crystal clear. I’ve seen tons of fishes!
I’m staying in Mallorca until the 18th to train, visit and explore the magnificent mountains. Then we’ll visit Barcelona for a few days and I’ll fly home for some training and getting ready for Ironman 70.3 Raleigh on June 5th.”
In these videos, he shows us what some of his training has looked like while in Mallorca.
