Andrew Starykowicz clocks impressive 4:01:14 bike split in comeback race at Ironman Texas

His bike split was over 10 minutes faster than the second fastest.

While USA’s Matt Hanson and Jodie Robertson claimed the 2017 Ironman North American Championship titles at Ironman Texas today, perhaps the most impressive performance of the day came from Andrew Starykowicz who posted a blistering fast 4:01:14 bike split for the 180-km ride in less than a year after he was hit by a van on a training ride.

Starykowicz, widely considered the USA’s fastest pro triathlon cyclist, announced 2017 would be his comeback year after the hit-and-run that caused him several serious injuries and put his career – and life – at risk last August.

Though he led the race for part of the run, the 10-time Ironman champion ended up in 19th place at the regional championship race today and set the course bike record. He has inspired legions of triathlon fans with his determination and perseverance.
