70.3 Les Sables d’Olonne – Vendée tops Athletes’ Choice Awards
Canadians will have to travel outside the country to attend any of the most popular Ironman 70.3 races from 2019.
It didn’t take long for athletes to take to Ironman 70.3 Les Sables d’Olonne – Vendée – the inaugural edition topped the Overall Satisfaction category in Ironman’s Athletes’ Choice Awards.
Set on the Côte de Lumière, the western French coast, with its picturesque beaches, Ironman reports that athlete loved “the canal swim, forest bike ride, and half-marathon along the promeneade” at Ironman 70.3 Les Sables d’Olonne – Vendée last year. It wasn’t the only popular French race, either – second place in the category went to Ironman 70.3 Vichy, followed by Australia’s Ironman 70.3 Port Macquarie.
Races down under were certainly popular last year with Ironman 70.3 competitors – after the event in Port Macquarie came the site of this year’s world championship, Taupo, followed by Australian races in Sunshine Coast, Geelong, Western Australia and Cairns. As if all that weren’t enough for the Aussies, the 10th race on the list was Western Sydney.
Sadly no Canadian events appeared in the top-10 of any of the categories in last year’s athletes’ choice awards:
