Canada’s Tenille Hoogland wins Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains

Canada’s Tenille Hoogland got out to the early lead after a 21:56 swim, rode the top women’s bike split of 2:27:59 to further pad her lead, and coasted in with a 1:31:08 half marathon to win with relative ease in 4:23:52 at Ironman 70.3 Poconos in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania today. Americans Amber Ferreira (4:30:55), and Beth Shutt (4:30:57) took second and third respectively. Jessie Donavan, the Ironman Lake Placid and Mont-Tremblant champion, surrendered over 8 minutes to Hoogland after the swim and just could not make up the gap.

Canadians Miranda Tomenson-Bharadwaj finished 7th (4:35:03), Christine Fletcher 8th (4:36:56), and Cindy Lewis 11th (4:54:30).

American Jessie Thomas simply outrode (2:10:32) and outran (1:14:49) everyone to lock down victory in 3:49:41. Fellow American Jordan Jones had the second best run (1:15:41) to take the runner-up position (3:54:02), and Germany’s Maik Twelsiek closed with a 1:17:42 half marathon to take third (3:55:01).

Canada’s Ryan Cain finished 12th (4:15:40), and Martin Lamontagne Lacasse 15th (4:24:56).
