Janelle Morrison and Tom Evans take top spot at the Desert Half in Osoyoos
Morrison's first race since her near fatal accident less than two years ago.
The Penticton pair of Janelle Morrison and Tom Evans brought home dominating wins at the Desert Half Iron in Osoyoos, British Columbia on Sunday July 8.
The race marked Morrison’s comeback to racing after surviving a near fatal car accident just 595 days prior. Morrison not only won the women’s race, she finished sixth overall with a 4:45:29 clocking. She swam 28:25, biked 2:42:53, and ran 1:31:17 to win by over 33 minutes.
“As the race went on the heat became more intense, and so I definitely felt less and less comfortable,” said Morrison, who plans on racing Ironman 70.3 Calgary next on July 29. “Especially during the last half of the run where there was quite a bit of pain actually. Evans raced to a 4:23:59 finish to win by a near 10-minute margin. He led from start to finish with a 22:51 swim, 2:29:24 bike, and 1:28:48 run.
