Ironman 70.3 Bintan

bintan-010_283 2On Wednesday, the WTC announced the 16th 70.3 event to launch in Indonesia with Ironman 70.3 Bintan near Singapore. Formerly the MetaMan Bintan triathlon, the rebranded race will take place on August 23, 2015. It will be among the first qualifying races for the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Championship to be held in Sunshine Coast, Australia.

The race takes place on the stunning beach resort of Bintan Island. The 1.9 km swim will be in calm, clear waters, followed by a single lap 90 km ride on smooth, wide roads. The run is three-loops so is excellent for spectators.

“We are thrilled to add another race in Asia-Pacific in association with MetaSport, who ran the MetaMan event which was well-established in the region,” said Geoff Meyer, Ironman Asia-Pacific CEO. “MetaSport have done a great job growing this event and we look forward to working with them and continuing our strong commitment to growing the sport across Asia.”

Ironman 70.3 Bintan, Indonesia will be open to relay teams and will also include an Ironkids event as well as a shorter AquaBike and Bintain Blitz triathlon for individuals or relay teams.

Being so close to Singapore, Bintan combines the cosmopolitan with coastal holiday. There will be 40 age group qualifying slots for the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Championship up for grabs. Entries for Ironman 70.3 Bintan, Indonesia have already opened.
