Reid and McQuaid win Challenge St. Andrews

Taylor Reid and Melanie Mcquaid won the second Challenge St. Andrews on Sunday. The TMC contributors both took home $3500 for their efforts. This was Reid’s first pro win at the distance. He told TMC, “I am so pleased with today. It could not have gone better. My first professional win on Canadian soil. St. Andrews Challenge put on an amazing event at a beautiful venue.” Reid won in 3:54:14 with an impressive 1:13 half marathon split. In second place was Italy’s Alberto Alessandroni and in third was American Iain Alexandridis

To cap off a perfect day Reid was able to give his parents finishing medals as Jim Reid and Peggy Taylor Reid also raced.

Melanie McQuaid dominated all day winning in 4:26:57. With the top swim and bike split McQuaid set herself up well for the run. In her second Challenge race of the season, Ontario’s Kirsten Marchant took her first podium in the series in second place in a solid performance across disciplines. American Jillian Petersen put in the fastest run of the day to grab third about 20 seconds behind Marchant.

McQuaid told TMC, “It was a truly memorable experience visiting the beautiful town of St Andrews. I was pushed all day by the other girls and I’m happy that my Ironman training is going well. The Challenge race events are very special with the added opportunities to meet amazing people and share passion for the sport of triathlon.”
