Ontario runner drowns while training for a triathlon

Peter_SimonHamilton runner, Peter Simon was found dead on Sunday. He drowned while training for a triathlon.

Simon was 47 and was training for an Ironman race in Binbrook Conservation Area. Emergency crews found his body on the shores of Lake Niapenco early on Sunday, according to the CBC. This came after a park staff member reported seeing the body of the missing runner during morning rounds.

Simon went missing on June 8. Police don’t think that the death is suspicious.

Simon was well-known in Hamilton as an avid runner. His friends say that the runner had a goal of never doing a race more than once.

His family has said that he died doing something that he loved. They appreciate the condolences and ask that their privacy be respected at this time.
