ETU European Half Distance Triathlon Championships set for this weekend

The Mediterranean island of Mallorca is getting ready to host 1,200 athletes from around the world for the official ETU European Half Distance Triathlon Championships this Sunday, October  18 at Challenge Paguera Mallorca.

Europe’s top names in triathlon will line up in a 70 deep pro field to claim the prestigious title of European Champion. They include former European Champion, Ritchie Nicholls (GBR) in the men’s and multiple long distance champion Helle Frederikson (DEN) in the women’s race.

Challenge Paguera Mallorca is the pinnacle event in a week-long celebration of sport providing athletes, their families and the local community with a varied programme that includes Junior Challenge Paguera for youngsters, Challenge Women 5 km fun run,  a circus and live music.

Challenge Paguera Mallorca starts with a single lap swim between two of the most stunning coves on the famous Mallorcan coast. The race begins on Playa Torá and ends at Playa de la Romana. The bike  2 loop, mostly flat 45 km bike course promises to be fast. With its highest peak of 151 m, the bike course follows the coast, passing through some of the best known tourist resorts and alongside some of the island’s most popular beaches before heading inland into the  foothills of the internationally famous Serra de la Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The  four loop 21.1 km run course is also fast traversing the beaches of Els Morts, Torà and Paguera and through the Boulevard in the tourist resort of Paguera.
