Challenge St. Andrews set for this weekend

An excited if anxious field of age group and professional triathletes are taking over the  beautiful seaside resort town of St. Andrews-by-the-Sea this weekend to race Challenge St. Andrews. As one of Canada’s oldest tourist sites, the town features the Algonquin Resort, a beautiful race headquarters. The international pro field is deep with athletes from Italy, New Zealand and Australia, as well as across Canada and the US.  On the men’s side Taylor Reid, fresh off a second place finish at Mont Tremblant 70.3, is certain to put the guys through their paces. Fellow Canadians Cedric Boiley, Mikael Staer Nathan and Pierre-Yves Gigou will also be on the line.

Melanie McQuaid headlines the Canadian women’s line up, fitter than ever she prepares for her first Ironman later this month in Whistler.  Last year’s second place female, American Charisa Wernick, will be back and Australian Kate Bevilaqua, along with US athletes Molly Roohi and Jillian Peterson are also certain to push the pace. Young Canadian pro Kristen Marchant definitely has the running legs to get up to the front as well, and Quebec’s Caroline St Pierre will no doubt ensure the swim is fast and furious.
