Beals and French win the Belwood Triathlon

Cody Beals of Fergus, Ontario and Suzanne French of Caledon East, Ontario, captured the men’s and women’s titles today at the Belwood Triathlon (750 m swim, 30 km bike, 7.5 km run).

Beals, led all competitors out of the Belwood Lake with a 10:21 swim. In close pursuit were Toronto’s Mikael Staer Nathan (10:28), and Michael Murray (10:32) of Ajax. Beals then seized complete control of the race with a crushing 42:38 bike ride along the windy and course littered with rolling hills and steady grades. With the race in hand, Beals finished with a 24:57 run to grab the hometown win in 1:19:14.

“This was the site of my first triathlon eight years ago. Eight years later and my first season as a pro and I am back, said Beals, who posted some great early season results at Challenge St. Andrews, and Ironman 70.3 Galveston and Syracuse. “For July and August I am not going to race too much and just put in a good block of training. I’ll hit the (Ontario) Provincial Championships in Bracebridge (August 10). September with be a really big month. I am going to hit Muskoka 70.3, Lakeside, and the Niagara Falls Barrelman.”
