The 2014 Weihai ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships  get underway this  Sunday in Weihai China. Triathlon legend Craig Alexander tops the elite men’s start list alongside the versatile short and long-course American standout Greg Bennett. On the women’s side former 70.3 World Champ Melissa Hauschildt will have a chance to contest a disappointing race at the 70.3 Worlds in Mont-Tremblant. She will definitely have some company out at the front with Olympians Laura Bennett and Andrea Hewitt as well as Denmark’s Camilla Pedersen.  The pros will compete for an 85,000 USD prize purse.

Athletes will have to endure very warm temperatures over the 4 km, two lap swim, the 120 km, three lap bike course and 20 km, four lap run. The bike course will favour ITU short course specialists with technically challenging corners and hills along sea side roads. The run too is technical and is a mix of roads and wooded paths. A wetsuit swim is likely.
