Sanders golden at Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant, Canadians storm top ten

Lionel Sanders continued his domination at the half distance with his fifth consecutive Ironman 70.3 victory in Mont-Tremblant yesterday. Despite the heat and a tough a field of competitors, he delivered a 26:17 swim, 2:02:29 bike and 1:15:06 run to cross the finish line in 3:47:31. Great Britain’s Holly Lawrence, who has been showing consistent podium finishes this season, took the women’s title in 4:08:53.

Sanders and was joined by fellow Canadian Trevor Wurtele in second on the men’s podium, who finished in 3:52:34. His wife, Heather, was also second on women’s podium. Several other Canadian pros stormed the top 10, with Cody Beals, Taylor Reid, Antoine Jolicoeurs Desroches and Jordan Monnink finishing in fourth, fifth ninth and tenth respectively. On the women’s side, Kristen Marchant impressed herself with a sixth place finish at her Tremblant debut, and Quebec’s Stephanie Roy, Isabelle Rouleau and Annie Gervais took seventh through ninth respectively.

It was a great day for the amateurs as well, with age-group superstar Jerome Bresson taking the overall title in 4:11:44 and Marie-France Roy winning the women’s race in 4;43:15.
