Lionel Sanders joined his mother, Becky Sanders, at the Boston Marathon over the weekend where the two completed the iconic race together for the final 10K. Sanders, who had never completed a stand-alone marathon, qualified at Kona last year (athletes can use the Ironman World Championship marathon leg as a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon) and used it as an opportunity to run the majority of the race (28K) as his weekly long run before running the final portion and crossing the finish line with his mother. Becky Sanders is a five-time Boston runner and avid marathon runner and triathlete herself. She finished this year’s Boston in 3:35, just shy of her 3:30 goal.
