Lionel Sanders runs Boston Marathon with his mother

Sanders and his mother, Becky Sanders, ran the final 10K of the iconic marathon together.

 

Lionel Sanders joined his mother, Becky Sanders, at the Boston Marathon over the weekend where the two completed the iconic race together for the final 10K. Sanders, who had never completed a stand-alone marathon, qualified at Kona last year (athletes can use the Ironman World Championship marathon leg as a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon) and used it as an opportunity to run the majority of the race (28K) as his weekly long run before running the final portion and crossing the finish line with his mother. Becky Sanders is a five-time Boston runner and avid marathon runner and triathlete herself. She finished this year’s Boston in 3:35, just shy of her 3:30 goal.

Canadian Running Magazine was on-site at this year’s Boston Marathon and caught up with Sanders after his race. Watch their interview below:
