Marcus Ornellas, Carla Moreno and Santiago Ancenço have confirmed their presence on the start line of TriStar Rio de Janeiro. PRO Prize Purse in the amount of R$20,000 will be distributed among the winners of this race. The event is almost sold out: 800 athletes have already signed up!
The first edition of TriStar Rio (October 14) will have a strong PRO field with the presence of many great triathletes, among others Marcus Ornellas, the official TriStar Ambassador for Brazil, Carla Moreno the eight-time “Trofeu Brazil” winner or Santiago Ancençowho was second at Ironman Brazil 2012. These and several other professional athletes will be lined up at the famous Flamengo Beach.
TriStar Rio ambassador Marcus Ornellas has participated in many TriStar events in Europe and is confident to enjoy a high quality race in Brazil as well. “I hope TriStar Rio will be unforgettable. Since 1996, we are waiting for an international event in the city, for age groupers and professionals. I’m so excited to race a TriStar at home. Finally!” Ornellas said. The TriStar distances are the same for professional athletes as well as amateurs. 1 km of swimming, 100 km of cycling and 10 km of running are waiting for the TriStar111 participants and 500 m of swimming, 50 km cyclinng and 5 km running for the participants of TriStar55.5. These formats can be accomplished individually or in a relay team. 800 athletes will enjoy the landscapes of Guanabara Bay, the sea, the typical architecture of the city and of course the sights familiar to Brazilian supporters, such as the Sugarloaf Mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer. Furthermore, an interesting PRO Prize Purse of R$20,000 will be offered to the top 5 professionals ranked in the female and male category.
Santiago Ancenço, an experienced long distance athlete from Goiânia gives an important advice to all the starters: “Remember, Rio normally has a very hot and wet weather, so we should take extra care with hydration before, during and after the event.”
Almost 800 participants have already signed up for TriStar Rio de Janeiro, including professional and amateur triathletes and athletes from other sports, such as pilots Lucas di Grassi and Antônio Pizzonia, who use triathlon as a special workout activity for the motor races.
TriStar Rio de Janeiro - full weekend of sports and activities - is organized by Star Events South America, and is the result of a partnership between two agencies, ONE International Sport Business and Star Events.
