Spain’s Javier Gomez simply ran away from the rest of the men’s field with a 32:32 10 km split to win the HyVee 5150 title (1:51:21) in the 32 degree heat of Des Moines, Iowa. American Hunter Kemper had the second best run (33:11) to finish second in 1:51:59, and American Greg Bennett took third (1:52:24).

Sweden’s Lisa Norden, second at the London Olympics, also used a great run (36:32-second best to Kelly Williamson’s 36:14) to overtake American Sarah Haskins for the women’s win (2:01:59) and successfully defended her title. Haskins crossed the finish in second (2:02:50), and Great Britain’s Jodie Stimpson finished third (2:03:37). Canada’s Angela Naeth used the race best 40 km bike (1:01:27) to secured fourth (2:03:46).
