Triathlon

Today, a pair of New Zealanders made their home country proud at the 26^th Ironman New Zealand.

Nine-time Champion, Cameron Brown, secured his latest win by coming from behind on the swim (3:50 back of Kieran Doe), and then posting the best bike (4:40:29) and run splits (2:47:35) to finish 8:08 ahead of Terenzo Bozzone - repeating his runner-up performance from last year. Brown now has more wins than any other triathlete at a single Ironman event.

Meanwhile, Joanna Lawn’s win was impressive on many levels. Her 50:46 swim, 5:12:19 bike, and 3:06:23 run set a new course record (9:14:35), she took home her 7^th Ironman New Zealand title, and she gained revenge on Gina Crawford (beating her by almost 14 minutes) who ended her Ironman New Zealand streak at 6 in a row last year. In the race for second, the USA’s Kim Loeffler ran 3:08:21 to give Crawford a bit of a scare, but after spotting Crawford a 14 minute lead after the swim, the lead was insurmountable, leaving her to settle for third place.

The fastest male and female Canadians both came from the 35-39 age category -  Aaron Hoag (10:12:38), and Janine Willis (10:23:37).
